The Assistant follows one day in the life of Jane (Julia Garner), a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, who has recently landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul.
We never see her Harvey Weinstein-ish boss, but we hate him already, especially in this #MeToo time we now live in.
Let’s first talk about Julia. I love her in Ozark and Dirty John. But not in this little Indie. Her acting in The Assistant is stellar but this vehicle just isn’t good enough for her. It’s heavy handed, nothing is left to the imagination, and it’s obvious at every turn. It plays as a starter movie by a Production Assistant who once worked for her own POS.
