Mary Kay Letourneau, the Burien elementary school teacher who had a sexual relationship with her sixth-grade student who she later married, has died of cancer. She was 58-years-old.
Letourneau became the center of a national scandal for her 1997 conviction of raping 12-year-old Vili Fualaau. At the time, Letourneau was 34-years-old and had 4 children. She was also pregnant with her former student's baby at the time she was convicted.
She was released on parole in 1998 and was barred from contacting Fualaau, but later returned to prison to finish her seven-year-sentence after they were caught together again. The pair got married in 2005 and had two children, but finalized their divorce last year.
