Finally, Emma is back. She’s smart, strong and looking good. And so is her character, late night TV host Katherine Newberry. She’s unlike any we have on real-life TV right now, and she’s got to do something soon to improve her show and her image if she wants to stay on pretend TV.
Enter Mindy Kaling as Molly, who’s initially a diversity hire, and who stays struggling in her new writing gig for a good long while. Which is realistic. No quick rise to the top sequence for this gal.
Emma stuns as a calloused yet classy TV veteran in search of a comeuppance. And Mindy is just the one who needs to deliver it.
A solid B+ from yours truly.
