On June 27, 1999, Ken Griffey Jr hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning for the final home run at the Kingdome. The Mariners would go on to beat the Rangers, 5-2. Starting pitchers were Aaron Sele for the Rangers and Freddy Garcia for the Mariners.
The Kingdome would go on to be demolished at 8:30am on Sunday, March 26, 2000. The demolition captured a Guinness World Record for the "Largest Structure (by volume) To Be Demolished Using Explosives."
