Ick: More Western WA Beaches Closed Due To High Bacteria Counts [List]

Two Lake Washington beaches - Juanita Beach in Kirkland and Matthews Beach in Seattle - have both shown high bacteria counts for the past four weeks, prompting officials to issue the closure orders.

In addition, the state Department of Ecology has closed three Puget Sound beaches - Richey Viewpoint in West Seattle, Sunnyside Beach Park in Pierce County and Chambers Creek Properties in Pierce County - due to nearby sewage spills.

Advisories also have been issued at seven Puget Sound beaches where children, elderly and those in ill health are advised not to swim due to increased levels of bacteria. Those beaches are:

Windjammer Park on Whidbey Island

Freeland County Park at Holmes Harbor on Whidbey Island

Mukilteo Lighthouse Park in Snohomish County

Edmonds Marina Beach Dog Park in Snohomish County

Walker County Park in Mason County

Priest Point Park in Thurston County

West Bay Park in Thurston County
