Las Vegas, Orlando And Los Angeles Among the Most 'Fun' Cities in America

2019’s Most Fun Cities in America

Are we having fun yet? If you live in Las Vegas, NV, Orlando, Fl, or New York City, the answer is most likely going to be 'yes' - at least that's according to a new study that's determined 2019's most fun cities across America.

Of course, because 'fun' is subjective, everyone's definition is going to be different. But there's no denying that we Americans like having fun. In fact, according to a recent survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American spends at least $3,000 every year on entertainment options.

Having fun and spending money isn't always exclusive. Some cities have the resources and ability to offer residents low-cost entertainment options, while other cities build their entire economies around people having fun. To help people find out which city has the greatest variety of fun, but cost-effective activities, WalletHub gathered data on more than 180 cities to determine how 'fun' each city is. Data included the number of fitness centers per capita, to how much a movie ticket costs to the average number of breweries.

They say what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas, but the memories you make will last forever. So it's no surprise to see America's Playground as #1 on the list of the most 'fun' cities in 2019. With dozens of delicious dining options open 24/7, the casinos, and a wide variety of shows, it's no wonder that Las Vegas is number one on WalletHub's list (and in America's hearts).

You'll also have a 'magical' time in Orlando, Florida after it was ranked number 2 by WalletHub, thanks to the city's wide variety of entertainment options (which go beyond Disney's contribution to the city's economy). If you're looking to get your groove on, Orlando is a great place to do so, as it tied for 1st with San Francisco and Las Vegas for the number of dance clubs per capita.

ew York City, New York, came in third on WalletHub's list of most fun cities in America. New York City is already a legendary destination for many people across the world, but thanks to its many amenities, it's also an incredibly fun place to visit. People who want to take a bite out of The Big Apple will be pleased to know that the city ranks number one in the U.S. for having the most restaurants per capita. Plus, residents have plenty of opportunity to work off any extra calories they might eat, at one of the numerous gyms across the city as tied for number one in the country for having the most fitness centers per capita.

Los Angeles is another place to have a great time according to WalletHub. Residents in the City of Angels know how to move, as it tied with New York on the number of fitness centers per capita, and also boasts some of the most dance clubs per capita in the nation.

If you're worried about having a good time taking a toll on your wallet, experts say deals are always available, especially when booking in the off-season.

"Avoid the crowds and get to enjoy the destination like a local," said Dr. Angela Durko, a professor of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University. "Off season brings discounts on lodging and airfare. You may experience restaurants with off season opening times, some rainy days or limited tourist offerings, but you and your travel companions may get the beach, museum, hiking trail or local establishments to yourselves."

If your plans are flexible, Dr. Durko recommends sites that search for heavily discounted airfare prices from airlines across the U.S. where last-minute deals can save you a ton of money.

Research shows that people are more likely to seek out authentic travel experiences that go beyond just being able to say you've been there. Nowadays, travelers want to do something that goes along with their travel.

"Gone are the days when Generic America would attract a tourist," Durko said. "Now a location needs that unique authentic selling point, something you’re not seeing or doing at home. If you’re going to spend your limited vacation time and budget, many people want a special travel experience."
