Callahan Reviews ‘Where’d You Go, Bernadette’

Watch the trailer and then we’ll talk...

Okay. I always, without fail, wait with baited breath once a new Cate Blanchett movie has been announced.

However, while sitting in a recent preview of ‘Where’d you go, Bernadette,’ I kept waiting for that usually very good Cate Blanchett film to develop.

A director can either ace a book adaptation or wreck it. Richard Linklater hit somewhere in between with a ‘meh.’ I don’t remember Bernadette being so grating. We’re put through watching her emotional crash much too long. And Cate doesn’t make her sympathetic enough to care. When I finally liked Bernadette after her crash, the film was over.

If you love Ms. Blanchett and will stare at her reading the phonebook, even while being annoying, then go see, ‘Where’d you go, Bernadette.’ Better yet, read the the book.
