Pilot Orders Pizza For Passengers Stranded Due To Snowstorm

An Air Canada plane is viewed on the tarmac

A pilot on a stranded Air Canada Flight decided to cheer up his passengers by ordering pizza to be delivered to the tarmac. Air Canada Flight 608 from Toronto to Halifax, Nova Scotia was forced to divert to an airport in Fredericton, New Brunswick because of bad weather.

The flight was circling the airport in Halifax waiting to land when another plane slid off the runway, forcing officials to close the runways. When the Air Canada flight made it to Fredericton, it was forced to wait on the tarmac because all the gates were taken by other planes which had also been diverted.

While the plane was waiting to find a gate, the pilot kept the passengers updated on the plane's status, and after being stuck on the plane for several hours, he called up a local restaurant and ordered 23 pizzas for the 150 passengers.

Passenger Bill Karsten, who is a municipal councilor in Halifax, tweeted a photo of the pizza and praised the pilot for keeping the passengers informed during the lengthy delay.

"He walked entirely down the length of the plane just to make sure we knew what was going on and whatnot, before departing to Halifax. So I think the mood was set, in reality, by the great work of the captain," Karsten said.
