Customers Buy Out Doughnut Shop Every Day So Owner Can Visit Sick Wife

If you're looking to purchase doughnuts from Donut City in Seal Beach, California, you'll have to get in line. Customers in the community there have rallied together to buy out the little doughnut shop every morning so that the owner can visit his sick wife.

John Chhan and his wife, Stella, have owned Donut City in Orange County since coming to America from Cambodia as refugees in 1979 and they've been up early serving sweet pastries and coffee to their customers in the beach community ever since. That is, until customers began noticing that Stella, was not at her usual place behind the counter.

Turns out, Stella had suffered an aneurysm. She's alive, but is in rehab. John Chhan rushes home every day to help and be with her as soon as their shop sells out of doughnuts.

When their customers learned of Stella's condition, they wanted to set up a GoFundMe, but John declined their offer saying he just wants more time with his wife. So, his customers have decided to make sure John's donut shop sells out early every morning so that the couple can be together.

“We sell out fast, every day,” Chhan told CBS 2 with a smile.

Thanks to his regular customers, Chhan's been able to get out of the shop and home to his wife by 10 a.m. on some days.

Word spread about Chhan's wife and the need to bu y out the shop quickly every day.

It's a great example of how the world is filled with good people making a difference, one dozen at a time.
