Movie Trailer Monday

Hey there, it’s Jason on Jack-FM with a new website feature that I’m hoping to get off the ground called “Movie [insert something here] Mondays!”

As you may already know, I’m a movie fanatic. I am obsessed with the Silver Screen, and I really enjoy writing about what I’ve found. So with that in mind, let’s talk MOVIES!

The Super Bowl is always loaded with the best advertisements money can buy. Let’s face it, we’re all watching, and all of these companies want us to spend our money on their *ahem* stuff. And within the onslaught of advertising are all of the trailers for all of the movies that we usually really want to see.

Here is a quick list, complete with my thoughts:

Let’s get this one out of the way immediately…

Personally, I’m not really looking forward to this one.  If you’re shocked, that makes two of us. I LOVE the Star Wars universe, and I’ve been on board for just about everything we’ve seen so far, but this seems… unnecessary. For starters, the lead actor just isn’t doing it for me; he doesn’t LOOK like Han Solo, he doesn’t SOUND like Han Solo.  Frankly, I want to have stories about the things we DON’T know about yet, instead of rehashing characters from our past.

That said... Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian looks smooth as hell.

Next up is another [unnecessary] sequel!

Again, another one that I’m on the fence about. Jurassic World was a dud, but this trailer actually looks like it has promise. Dinosaurs are awesome, I just hope that the story around them doesn’t suck this time.

Also, a T-Rex sized Velociraptor? Okay!

Okay, Skyscraper… I have NO IDEA what to say here:

Soooo… it’s another Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson action flick including the overzealous use of helicopters, but this time… he’s an amputee? Cool I guess, but this looks like another “San Andreas” that I won’t be watching unless it’s 1am & it comes on cable while I’m dozing.

Shhhhhhhhhh…

I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while now. I am a fan of both Emily Blunt & John Krasinski, and the story behind this thriller seems really interesting. Being someone who works with sound every day & lives by what I hear, A Quiet Place feels like it’s going to be very intense.

Black Widow, is that you?

While this isn’t the first, second, or even third trailer for Red Sparrow, it’s still pretty cool. I’ve been curious how this movie will affect Marvel Studios’ production of a Black Widow standalone movie ever since they announced it last year. Jennifer Lawrence seems perfectly cast in this spy thriller, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.

DUN DUN, DUN-DUN, DUN DUN, DUN-DUN:

I’m a sucker for these flicks. I love the cast they’ve built, I love that the goal posts keep moving further & further out for each installment, and I love how crazy the stunts get. Love him or hate him, Tom Cruise owns the role as Ethan Hunt, and the fact that he’s still doing all of his own stunt work while in his 50’s is fantastic. I’m there on Day One.

AND FINALLY:

I told myself that I wasn’t going to watch this trailer, but alas… As soon as it hit the screen, I stopped everything and leaned in like a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons.  I’m a Marvel P1, I’m their prime demographic, and I have been eating up EVERYTHING they’re putting out.  This one looks just fantastic, and I can’t wait to see how the next two Avengers movies wrap up the current phase of the universe, and to see where it all goes from here.

BONUS ROUND:

I’m writing a review of the entire movie AS WE SPEAK!

JJ Abrams does it again, dropping a trailer during the game, with the entire movie ready to watch on Netflix after it was over.  I DID watch it, and I will review it for “Movie Review Mondays” in just a few minutes.  My quick thoughts: Fantastic cast, really interesting story, great way to revamp a story into an existing universe.

BONUS BONUS ROUND:

There were SO many great TV trailers too! I’m most excited for Westworld Season Two on HBO, but as a guy who grew up reading Tom Clancy & Stephen King, Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan & Hulu’s Castle Rock are really exciting too!

That’s it for now. I’ll be back with a review of The Cloverfield Paradox in a bit.  Until then, watch more movies! (And apologies to Wil Wheaton for stealing his “play more games” tagline)
